Kilkee Sub Aqua Club
ORIGINS: Kilkee Sub Aqua club was founded in 1982 to promote scuba diving in the West Clare area. The club has 30 plus members and is a member club of CFT – Comhairle Fó Thuinn (The Irish Underwater Council) – the regulatory body for sports diving in Ireland with about 80 member clubs both North and South.

ACTIVITIES: The club engages in specialist training courses with other clubs, provides a platform for dive outings for members and visiting divers during the season and also operates its own Search & Recovery unit, assisting Kilkee Marine Rescue Service and the other emergency services when required. The club operates on a voluntary non-profit-making basis. The club has its own clubhouse, based in Kikee, and a Ribcraft 6.8 rigid inflatable boat (RIB).

SCHEDULE: The club is most active between March and October when it engages in snorkeling and diving, mostly around the Kilkee area where there are multiple diving sites that are, with the right weather conditions, easily accessible. Kilkee is one of the busiest dive sites in Ireland because of the range of diving sites available. Diver supplies are available at the OceanLife Dive Centre on the seafront.

During the off season, between November and March, the club begins its training programme for new members at the pool in Shannon Leisure Centre. Trained members engage in swimming activities and practise essential water skills.
For more information on dive sites in Kilkee please check out the Kilkee Sub Aqua Club site for details and maps. Also further information can be found on the Dive Ireland website about each of the dive sites.
